The Meghann Burke Western North Carolina Soccer Pollinator Award has been established to honor the intersection of women in soccer and the vibrant culture of Western North Carolina. This award, named after Meghann Burke, owner of Asheville City Soccer Club and Executive Director of the National Women's Soccer League Players Association (NWSLPA), recognizes women who embody the essence of soccer and the values of Western North Carolina. Burke, a resident of the area for over 20 years, played a crucial role in negotiating the NWSL's first collective bargaining agreement, highlighting her dedication to advancing women in soccer.

"Meghann’s work on behalf of the NWSL players has literally changed the history of women’s soccer forever. Her fierce advocacy, collaborative spirit, and personal experience make her the perfect person to push the game forward, and I can’t imagine anyone else being able to move the needle like Meghann has. We are all lucky that Meghann is playing such a prominent role in steering the future of the game,” said Yael Averbuch West, Gotham FC General Manager.

Under Burke's leadership, the NWSLPA achieved historic advancements for players, setting a new benchmark for equity and fairness in the sport. This award not only honors Burke's contributions but also celebrates her commitment to empowering women in soccer.

“There is no one in the history of women’s soccer in our country that has had such an institutional impact as Meghann has. She has connected generations of soccer players in our country with her fierce advocacy and integrity and is a strong, trustworthy leader for the players in the NWSL,” remarked Tori Huster, NWSL Player Association President.

Western North Carolina, known for its rich biodiversity and cultural heritage, provides the perfect setting for this prestigious award. Reflecting the region's spirit of collaboration and diversity, the Meghann Burke Western North Carolina Soccer Pollinator Award will spotlight the outstanding achievements of women in soccer who have contributed to the dynamic fabric of WNC.

“ACSC worked hard to find an appropriate way to celebrate our friend and co-owner, Meghann. It’s not hyperbolic to say she bent the course of the sport in this county - all the while fertilizing her own community and club with inspiration and love. We’re proud to work alongside her and to call her WNC’s own,” stated Tim Blekicki, Asheville City SC General Manager.
