The Women of Asheville City suffered a 3-0 loss at Wake FC on June 13th.

The Blues would create the first big chance of the game in the 26th minute when Riley Thompson released Addie Porter with a through ball down the line. Porter drove towards the left side of the goal and released a shot towards the far post but Erin Jones was equal to the opportunity.

Wake would find the opener in the 35th minute. Alexandra Kerr would pounce on a mistake from the Asheville backline and take advantage of her 1v1 opportunity with a tidy finish inside of the left post to take a 1-0 lead for Wake.

In the 45th minute, Wake would score again. Wake would earn a penalty when a handball was called on Asheville City inside the box. Victoria DellaPurta would step up and finish her penalty into the bottom left corner to increase her team’s advantage to 2-0.

In the 53rd minute, Wake found the back of the net once again but it was called back as the attacker strayed offside in the build-up play.

The Blues had a big opportunity in the 58th minute, when Ilana Izquierdo stepped up to take a freekick in a dangerous position. She blasted an attempt towards the center of the goal but it just narrowly went over the bar.

Izquierdo almost pulled the Blues within one in the 79th minute when she ripped a shot from just outside the box towards the bottom right corner but Erin Jones was able to get down and make the save.

Nicole Waters would add another for Wake in stoppage time in the 2nd half when her chance from just inside the box on the left side flew into the upper right corner to put Wake FC up 3-0.

Ilana Izquierdo was awarded the Highland Brewing Wishing Star of the Match for her efforts in the match.

Next for the Women is a date with FC Carolinas at Greenwood Field on June 20th.

For the Men, they return back to action when they host the Dalton Red Wolves on June 24th.
