Selections, made. Blues on top. The 2023 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft took place Wednesday night, Dec. 21, 2022. Of the more than three dozen players selected from the 2022 USL League Two season, five of those players played for Asheville City - the highest number of players drafted from one club.
“Yesterday evening was a fantastic moment for Asheville City Soccer Club. Five of our players were able to accomplish a huge step forward in their professional aspirations,” said Coach Scott Wells. “Ryan Bilichuk, Bachir Ndaye, Tyler Clegg, Kameron Lacey, and Makel Rasheed were a major part of our success last season, and I am thrilled our club was able to help develop and contribute to the next chapter of their lives. “

“I feel blessed to receive this opportunity. Thank you to my parents, my friends, my coaches and to Portland for taking a chance on me. Looking forward to what’s to come,” said Blues goalkeeper Ryan Bilichuk.
“I am so proud to say that I once represented Asheville. Being under Scott Wells helped me massively this past summer and improved my knowledge in the game. I would like to say thank you to the whole Asheville community, the fans, mostly my teammates who made my time there one to remember forever,” said Blues midfielder Bachir Ndiaye.
Players will join their new squads for preseason in early 2023 with hopes of signing full contracts for next season.
