Asheville City Soccer Club’s men’s team will host NC Fusion in a friendly on May 6 with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

The NC Fusion come to us from Greensboro and are led by head coach Chris Williams. The Fusion had a successful 2021 season where they were first in their division and finished runner-up in the USL2 national tournament. Most recently, the Fusion played in the US Open Cup where they made it to the third round after defeating USL1 Charlotte Independence.

This game will mark ACSC’s first game at Memorial Stadium since 2019. This will also be the first game for new Head Coach Scott Wells

“It will be a special day for so many people,”  Wells said. “I know how much the club and fans have missed being in their home stadium, I can’t wait for me and my family to experience the atmosphere with everyone.”

The Boys in Blue are playing their second season in USL2 as part of the deep south division. Last season the team finished fourth in their division, just missing their chance at a playoff spot. This season, the team seeks to avenge that spot.

This friendly match comes about a week before the men’s team travels to Knoxville for the Smoky Mountain Series against Knoxville SC on May 14.

“I couldn’t ask for a better test for us before opening up on the 14th,” Wells said. “As a staff our objective is to get everyone on the field for as long as possible, it is important for each player to get a feel for the environment and how it differs from their college programs.”

Both ACSC teams will compete in a double-header home opener on Friday, May 20. The men’s team will face the Dalton Red Wolves at 5:00 p.m. Immediately following, the women’s team will face the NC Fusion at 7:30 p.m.
