From professional athletes and weekend warriors to people navigating injuries or simply looking for ways to stay active, Jason and Maria Moore want to make recovery and wellness services more accessible to the Asheville community.
For Jason Moore, founder of Asheville Cryotherapy & Recovery, the idea started with personal experience. A former collegiate athlete and retired United States Marine with more than 20 years of service, Jason spent years dealing with injuries and searching for ways to stay active. He discovered whole-body cryotherapy in 2016 and eventually added compression therapy, red light therapy, and infrared sauna sessions to his personal recovery routine.
“I started trying to find ways that I could kind of stay in the game,” Moore said.
After moving to Asheville in 2022, he found himself driving to Greenville several times a week to access those services. He saw an opportunity to bring recovery options closer to home and make them more affordable. In January 2025, he opened Asheville Cryotherapy & Recovery.
Recovery Is for Everyone
While Asheville Cryotherapy & Recovery works with athletes, including players from Asheville City Soccer Club, its services aren’t just for people competing at the highest level. Think about Asheville’s weekend hikers, recreational runners, cyclists, gym regulars, and parents trying to keep up with their kids. Staying active looks different for everyone, and recovery can also be part of maintaining an active lifestyle.
The facility offers four services: whole-body cryotherapy, compression therapy, red light therapy, and infrared sauna. Clients can choose individual sessions, combine services, or explore packages and month-to-month memberships. For Moore, flexibility and affordability are key.
“I think we can come up with a way to do it and have it be affordable for people, and not have them stuck in some long contract or some complex plan,” he said.
Whether someone wants to complement their workout routine, unwind after a long week, or explore recovery options while working toward personal activity goals, the idea is to find an approach that fits their individual needs.
People managing injuries or returning to activity should consult a qualified healthcare professional about which services are appropriate for them. These therapies aren’t a replacement for medical care or prescribed rehabilitation. The same consideration applies to people navigating cancer treatment. Some may be interested in supportive wellness options, but not every service is appropriate for every person. Anyone undergoing treatment should consult their oncology team before trying cryotherapy, sauna, or other recovery therapies. These services should never be considered cancer treatments.

For Moore, the bigger picture is simple: people shouldn’t have to be professional athletes to take an interest in their recovery and well-being.
A Natural Partnership With Asheville City SC
Recovery is an important part of soccer. Between training sessions, matches, and demanding seasons, players need to take care of their bodies. Through its partnership with Asheville City SC, Asheville Cryotherapy & Recovery gives local players an opportunity to incorporate recovery services into their routines. Some athletes arrived already familiar with cryotherapy, while others tried it for the first time.

“Usually, once you’ve done the whole-body cryo, it’s so fast and easy, especially if you’re a young athlete with not a lot of time on your hands,” Moore said.
The partnership is a natural fit for two organizations invested in Asheville’s active community. For the club, it’s another way to support players beyond the pitch. For Moore, it’s an opportunity to work with local athletes while introducing more people to the recovery services available right here in Asheville.
A Family Business With a Community Focus
Jason built Asheville Cryotherapy & Recovery alongside his wife, Maria Moore. A fellow veteran, company co-founder, and licensed physical therapist with more than 22 years of experience, Maria brings a valuable perspective to the business. Her background in rehabilitation and functional recovery complements Jason’s firsthand experience with injuries and recovery. Together, their different experiences have helped shape the business’s focus on individualized care.
Their goal is to help more people in Asheville explore ways to stay active and feel their best. For Jason, that mission comes back to the reason he started the business in the first place: finding ways to stay in the game.
Even his own three-minute cryotherapy routine has a simple trick. He puts on a favorite song, often a Kelly Clarkson track that runs just over three minutes. When the song ends, he knows he’s done.

It’s a small reminder that recovery doesn’t have to be complicated, and it isn’t reserved for elite athletes. Whether you’re preparing for your next match, heading out for a weekend hike, or simply looking for ways to prioritize your well-being, recovery looks different for everyone. Asheville Cryotherapy & Recovery wants to help make those options more accessible to the community.
