Gry Boe Thrysoe has made the leap to the professional level, signing with Scottish Women’s Premier League side Rangers FC. Thrysoe was in the midst of her 3rd season with the Blues, during which she made four appearances before inking a deal with Rangers. She will be able to compete in the UEFA Champions League with her new club, as they begin their qualification path on August 5th.
Thrysoe was a part of some very important teams in Blues history. In her debut season in 2024, the club qualified for the USL W League playoffs for the first time in club history. In 2025, she also helped lead the club to its first South Central Division and Southern Conference championships, en route to its first national semifinal appearance. She played a key role in turning the tide this season after the team started 0-1-1, starting her last three matches in Asheville, which resulted in nine points for the Blues.
“Gry has been a standout player for us over the past two years,” said Head Coach Maxi Viera. “She has a level of competitiveness that is hard to find in players today. When you bring that mentality to everything you do, it’s inevitable that you’ll catch the attention of professional scouts.”
Thrysoe played her college ball at Old Dominion and spent five seasons with the Monarchs. The midfielder amassed 75 starts in 78 appearances (did not play in 2022) during her time at school, scoring 10 goals and dishing out 4 assists. The Monarchs won three conference championships back-to-back-to-back (‘21, ‘22, and ‘23) at the beginning of her tenure in Norfolk, and Thrysoe appeared in two of the three national tournament matches (missed 2022) that they played in during that time.
“As a club, we strive to be a top contender for national championships every year while providing our players with a pathway to professional soccer. Gry’s signing with Rangers, a club that competes in the UEFA Champions League, is a huge milestone for Asheville City,” said Viera. “We can’t wait to see Gry shine at Rangers, and we are 100% confident that she will make us proud.”
