Bryce Swinehart has become the Second Blue from the Men’s squad to go pro this Summer, signing with MLS Next Pro side Caroline Core FC. Swinehart was in the midst of his first season in Asheville, where he made nine appearances for the Blues before inking the deal with Carolina.
Swinehart spent three years at Liberty University before transferring to West Virginia for his final collegiate season. The defender started all 50 matches over his three seasons at Liberty, accumulating 8 goals and 3 assists. Last season with the Mountaineers, Swinehart appeared in all 21 matches while garnering 7 starts. He had 1 goal and 2 assists to help West Virginia tally a 13-5-3 record and qualify for the NCAA tournament.
Swinehart becomes the second Asheville City player to sign with Carolina Core this summer, joining midfielder Ryan Baer, who signed with the MLS Next Pro side earlier in June.
“Bryce has been a great servant to every program and club he’s represented. His talent is only exceeded by the commitment and hard work he puts in every day,” said Head Coach Carl Reynolds. “He was a pleasure to work with, and I look forward to seeing him take his talent and mentality into the professional game.”
“Another player that we have been able to give a platform to. I am so happy for Bryce; his dedication and sacrifice over the last 6 months show anything is possible,” said Men’s Sporting Director Scott Wells. “The club continues to help these lads achieve their dreams through the path to pro.”
