Asheville City SC’s women’s team is hosting the 1st and 2nd round of the USL W League playoffs at Greenwood Field on Friday, July 4th, and Sunday, July 6th. Whether you’ve been a die-hard fan since the inception of the team in 2018 or are planning to pay the Blues a visit for the first time ever, here’s everything you need to know to get the most out of this special moment in club history.

This marks the second consecutive year Asheville City SC has earned a spot in the USL W League national tournament, and the second straight year the club is hosting playoff matches in the heart of the Blue Ridge. This time, Asheville City are South Central Division champions for the first time in Club History.

It’s a meaningful milestone in the program’s seventh season. The team was founded in 2018, missed the 2020 season due to COVID-19, and had come close to playoff breakthroughs before. In 2019 and 2021, the Blues reached their conference tournament final under the WPSL structure but fell both times to the Charlotte Eagles.

Last summer, Asheville finally broke through in the USL W League, landing a spot in the national tournament. The Blues made the most of the opportunity, winning their opening game before falling in the quarterfinals to division rival Tennessee SC. Now, they are back and looking to go even further this time around.

Asheville City’s women will take the field at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 at Greenwood Field on the UNC Asheville campus against the Tallahassee Reckoning. The match will be the second in a playoff doubleheader, with the first semi-final for the Southern Conference held at 3:30 p.m between Sporting Club Jacksonville and Lone Star SC.

The winner of these matches will meet in the Southern Conference Final, which will also be hosted at Greenwood on Sunday, July 7, at 6:30 p.m.

Parking for Greenwood Field is available in Lots P27 and P28, located just off Campus Drive and University Heights. These lots are a short walk from the stadium entrance and will be clearly marked on game day.

Island FT and Summit Coffee will be back at the stadium to serve up local favorites. Island FT is known for Caribbean-style eats, while Summit will be pouring coffee and cold brew to keep fans cool and caffeinated.

Asheville City SC has worked to make its matches more inclusive and accessible for neurodivergent supporters. In partnership with The Arc of North Carolina, the club offers a matchday checklist that outlines every step of the night, from getting to the stadium to the end of the match, to help reduce anxiety and establish a predictable routine.

For many neurodivergent fans, changes to routine or overwhelming sensory environments can be challenging. The checklist serves as a blueprint for the evening, covering key areas like seating, game flow, and what to expect from the stadium atmosphere, including potential triggers like loud noises, bright lights or unfamiliar smells from food vendors.

In addition, sensory kits are available for checkout at the merchandise table for any youth or adult who may need them. Each kit includes noise-dampening headphones, a weighted lap pad, fidget toys and sunglasses.

Asheville City believes it is essential that accommodations used by neurodivergent individuals are normalized and welcomed at every match.

The squad features a dynamic mix of college stars, veteran leaders and local talent. Asheville’s potent attack has been led by players like ECU’s Emma Sheehan and Arkansas State’s Lucia Flores, while the defense has been anchored by Charlotte’s Rachel Logue and USF’s goalkeeper Gabrielle Rourke.
