Ahead of their away match against the Chattanooga Red Wolves on Tuesday, the Asheville City Women’s team was named 1st overall in the country in the USL W League power rankings for the first time in club history. Despite being down 1-0 at half, the Women in Blue showed that skill and mental toughness that earned them the top spot in the rankings to claw back and grab a gritty 2-1 away victory.

In the first half, the Blues thought they had found the opener twice but both goals were whistled dead before the ball was struck due to offsides in the build-up.

Chattanooga hopped on the board first when they grabbed the opening goal off of an awkward play as Asheville trailed the Red Wolves 1-0 at the break.

The Blues struck back in the 63rd minute off of a set piece to level things at 1. Caitlin Conroy’s free kick from the right side took a deflection and fell to Emma Sheehan about 12 yards out from goal on the left side. Sheehan rocketed a half-volley off of the right post and in to grab the equalizer for the Blues.

Asheville moved ahead in the 81st minute when a grounded cross sent in by Jesse Smith found Gry Boe Thrysoe on the right corner of the six-yard box. Thrysoe tapped it in towards the inside of the far post with her left foot to move the Blues ahead 2-1, which is how the scoreline ended.

Gry Boe Thrysoe was awarded The Noble Cider player of the match for her efforts on the night, which included the game-winning goal.

The Blues improved to 10-0-1 on the season with their win tonight and will hoist the South Central division trophy after the game on Saturday, June 28th, as they host the Greenville Liberty on Pride Night. You can get your tickets here.
