Asheville City SC is proud to announce Maxi Viera as the new Women’s Head Soccer Coach.
"As a player, a coach, and a fan, you always want to represent the best teams, and Asheville City SC stands out as one of them. Last season, I attended nearly every USLW game and saw firsthand how the organization is raising the bar for soccer in Western North Carolina,” says Viera. “From the exceptional quality of players to the passionate fan base, it was clear to me that this was a club I wanted to be part of. I’m driven by challenges and by the opportunity to showcase my abilities while enhancing our players’ development and helping Asheville City succeed. This role pushes me to raise my standards every day, and I’m excited to demonstrate what we can accomplish together.”
Viera is originally from Montevideo, Uruguay. He moved over to the US to play collegiate soccer where he spent his first two years at Montreat College and his last two at Rio Grande University. He played 9 years in USL2 which included a stop with the Western Mass Pioneers. In 2019, Viera became the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Ludlow High School where he stayed for three years before moving to Western North Carolina and becoming an assistant coach with Asheville Christian Academy. Recently, Viera was hired as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Warren Wilson University, a role in which he has been in since August.
“Asheville has become a home for me, and I’m passionate about contributing to its vibrant soccer culture,” says Viera. “I want fans to know that I’m dedicated to representing this club with pride and working tirelessly to achieve success on and off the field.”
The Women in Blue are looking to build off a successful campaign last year which saw the team finish 2nd in the South Central division with 26 points and advance to the Elite Eight of the USLW playoffs after defeating the #1 club in the nation, Florida Elite, in the Sweet Sixteen.
“Maxi is the right coach at the right time for this club. When we made our list of what we want in our next coach - high standards, dynamic play, and someone who can connect to the community - he checked every single one of those boxes. We fell one goal shy of the Final Four last year on the women’s side and we expect to be right there again this season with Maxi,” says Club Director, Tim Blekicki.
The USLW schedule has yet to be announced but you can go ahead and buy your season tickets here to see Coach Viera and the Blues in action this Summer!
