The Women of Asheville scored three unanswered goals to earn a win away at NC Fusion on June 6th.

The Fusion would strike first in the 20th minute when Molly Widderich would go on a long slaloming run through the Blues defense and slot it home near post on CJ Graham.

That would be the only goal Graham would give up, however, going the final 70 minutes without conceding and it would be all Asheville from here.

In the 38th minute, the Blues would find an equalizer when Ilana Izquierdo jumped on an errant back pass from the Fusion backline and laid it off to Addie Porter who rocketed a shot from outside the box that beat the North Carolina keeper and tied the game at 1-1.

Four minutes later, the Blues would jump ahead. After a freekick in a dangerous position, the Blues were denied at the back post but the rebound fell to Eileen Murphy who roofed it to give Asheville a 2-1 lead just before the break.

The Blues would ice it in the 73rd minute after Olivia Simpson’s long diagonal pass fell into the path of Porter inside the box. She outmuscled the defender and stuck it past the keeper for her fourth goal in two games to put Asheville up 3-1.

For her efforts in the match, Addie Porter was awarded the Highland Brewing Wishing Star of the Match.

Up next for the Women, a return to Greenwood Field as they host the Greenville Liberty for Pride Night on June 10th.

For the Men, next up is their second straight game at home as they face off against the South Carolina United Bantams on June 13th.
