Blues games end in a win and draw on Tuesday

Both ACSC teams were on the road on Tuesday, June 14. The women’s team defeated the NC Fusion 3-1 while the men’s game against the SSA Kings ended in a 1-1 draw. 

The women’s game began at 7:00 p.m. in Greensboro, NC. At the fifth minute Kiley Delaney scored her first goal of the night with a one on one matchup against the goalkeeper. 

Then, in the 27th minute Riley Thompson scored for the Blues with an assist from Van Fitch. Then, in the 56th minute Delaney scored her second of the night, making the score 3-0. 

In the 62nd minute, Sachiko Gamo entered the game for Cami Johnstone and CJ Graham entered the game for Emory Wegener. Then towards the end of the second half, Jessi Smith entered the match for Kiley Dulaney and Callie Swanger entered for Riley Thompson.  

Unfortunately, the Blues were unable to force a shutout as the NC Fusion scored in the 88th minute. The final score of the match was 3-1, letting ACSC bring three points to the standings. 

The men’s game ended in a 1-1 draw due to a last minute goal by the Kings. 

The first half of the game was scoreless, with a few yellow cards handed out to both teams. In the 26th minute a SSA player entered the book. Then in the 35th minute, Kameron Lacey received a yellow. Right after, Kemy Amiche was given a yellow. 

After halftime, Quenzi Huerman entered the match for Aidan O’Brien, as the Blues searched to score a goal. 

Finally, in the 55th minute Kameron Lacey got the team on the board. This is the second goal of the season for the UNC Charlotte senior. 

In the 65th minute, Daniel Cerezo entered the match for Kameron Lacey. This was Cerezo’s season debut for the Blues. 

In the 67th minute Dave Neijenhuis entered the book. In the 78th minute, Oskar Lenz entered for Bachir Ndiaye and Kyoji Hata entered for Lucas Gonzalaz. 

In the 83rd minute, goalkeeper Will Watson prevented disaster with an impressive double-save to keep the score 1-0. 

Unfortunately, in the 88th minute SSA Kings scored and the Blues were unable to get the point back, leaving the score 1-1. 

The Blues will hit the road again this weekend with games on Friday and Saturday. The men’s team will play Tennessee FC in Nashville, TN with a 7:30 p.m.(central time) kick off. Then on Saturday, the women’s team will play the Charlotte Independence with a 6:00 p.m. kick off. 

The Blues will return to Memorial Stadium for a double header on Tuesday, June 21.
