On Saturday, May 28 the women’s team tallied a 2-2 draw in an away match against Wake FC. The home team was 0-0-1 going into the match while ACSC was 1-0-1.

The first 20 minutes of the match saw no shots for either team. Finally,  Dani Murguia took control of the ball in the 21st minute to give the Blues a 1-0 lead. This was the first goal of the season for the University of Georgia graduate.

The Blues maintained a steady possession of the ball for most of the second half until Wake FC responded with a goal in the 35th minute. This was their first goal of the season and first shot of the game. The 1-1 tie remained until after halftime.

Entering the second half, Wake FC scored a go-ahead goal in the 53rd minute. This did not discourage the blues, as Alyssa Frazier responded with a PK in the 57th minute. The game was once again tied 2-2.

“We were the better team on the pitch but Wake FC took advantage of our mistakes,” coach Jimena Rojas Cordero said. “We need more patience, taking those extra seconds, we can give the defenders time to get to the ball.”

Although there were a few chances on both sides, the score finished in a 2-2 draw. The women’s team now has a 1-0-2 record this season.

“Van Fitch and Kiley Dulaney are defenders, they had a great game and those two were the players of the game for me,” Rojas Cordero said.
