Both ACSC teams were on the road Tuesday evening in rainy conditions. Both teams finished their games 1-1. The women’s team played the NC Courage, while the men’s team played South Georgia Tormenta FC.

The women’s game was scoreless at the half, with Emory Wegener undoubtedly proving herself as a solid goalkeeper. Although courage kept her on her toes, she maintained a clean sheet in the first half.

Notably, Arkansas teammates Van Fitch and Kiley Dulaney looked in control of the field during the half.

After halftime, the Blues got on the board when Van Fitch scored in the 68th minute. Not long after, the Courage responded with a goal off a corner kick. The score remained 1-1 until fulltime was called. The team’s record is 1-0-1 so far this season.

“We need to keep working and we can do better. We have a lot of new players and we need to find that chemistry. If we have that chemistry we will be able to reach our goals,” head coach Jimena Rojas Cordero said.

Next up for the women’s team is another away game in Holly Springs, NC against Wake FC on Saturday, May 28. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

“We are going to be more effective in front of the goal, that will be the focus for the upcoming game,” Rojas Cordero said.

After a long rain delay, the men’s squad kicked off at 8:25 p.m. against Tormenta FC. Similar to the women’s game the men finished the first half scoreless before scoring in the second half.

In the 65th minute Clay Obara scored finally allowing the Blues to get on the board. This marks his second goal so far this season.

At the 74th minute the stadium lights went off, causing yet another delay in the game.

The Blues held onto their lead all the way until late into stoppage time when Tormenta scored in the last minutes of the game. Without the time to respond, the game ended in a 1-1 tie. The men’s team record is now 2-0-1 this season.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the guys. Tormenta is a great team, they have fantastic facilities. So for us to be able to come here and make a statement was great,” head coach Scott Wells said.

The men’s team returns to action on June 1 against the Tri Cities Otters in Johnson City, Tennessee. Kick off will be at 7:00 p.m.
