Blues return to Memorial Stadium for first double-header of 2022 season

Both ACSC teams will return to Memorial Stadium this Friday for their first home regular season matchups of the year. The men’s team is returning after a big win against One Knoxville SC, while the women’s club will be making their USL W League debut.

The first game of the evening will see the men’s team face the Dalton Red Wolves out of Dalton, Georgia. The Red Wolves have a 0-1-1 record this season so far with a loss against the Tri-City Otters and a draw against Tennessee FC. Midfielder Shuto Yoneno of Saitama, Japan currently leads the team with two goals. 

Asheville City returns to their home field after a thrilling 2-1 win against One Knoxville SC. The first goal of the night was scored by Kemy Amiche with an assist by Quentin Huerman. In the last few minutes of the game, Luca Erhardt scored the game-winning penalty kick. Additionally, goalkeeper Ryan Bilichuk impressed with five saves. 

MEN'S 2022 SCHEDULE

The Men's team take to the road for the next two weeks, playing against South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 on Tuesday, May 24, Tri-Cities Otters on Wednesday, June 1 and Peachtree City MOBA on Saturday June 4. 

Following the men’s game, the women’s team will take the field for the first time in 2022. This will be their first game as part of the USL W League. Their opponent will be the NC Fusion out of Greensboro, NC. 

“We are very excited about this coming Friday,” head coach Jimena Rojas said. “We started working on our roster back in January, and finally, we got to see them competing. Very happy with the intensity and performance of our players during the training sessions and our staff. We are ready to go.” 

ACSC’s women’s team has plenty of new faces this season including new head coach Jimena Rojas Cordero. Joining her are assistant coaches Kate Hammes, Matt Barry and goalkeeping coach Kristen Eggert. Returners including Laura Greb and Chloe Mcleary-Small will bring leadership to a team making their league debut. 

WOMEN'S 2022 SCHEDULE

Next week, the women’s team will be traveling to Raleigh twice to face the NC Courage on Tuesday, May 24 and Wake FC on Saturday, May 28. Meanwhile, the men’s team will travel to Statesboro, Georgia to face Tormenta in a USL2 matchup on Tuesday, May 24.
