Asheville City Soccer Club is excited to announce the new Men’s First Team Assistant Coach, Dean Johnson.

Johnson comes to Asheville from Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia, where he acted as the Director of Soccer.

“Dean is a winner, there’s no two ways about it. Like me, he started in the NAIA and showed the hunger and worth ethic to progress through the ranks. He is a relentless worker and I believe will contribute to the culture of this club’s DNA,” said ACSC Coach Scott Wells.

Johnson led the Senators to a 7-2 record in the spring of 2021, coaching eight all-conference selections, including three First Team honorees. Additionally, he successfully moved the team into the top 10 in the US Soccer Coaches Poll, marking one of the highest rankings for the program as members of the NCAA.

Prior to his work in West Virginia, Johnson acted in a dual role as the men’s and women’s coach at Northeast Texas Community College, orchestrating a nearly 10-win turnaround on the men's side and bringing the women’s team to just its second 10-win season in school history.

Johnson graduated with an associates degree from Northwest in 2012 before earning a bachelor's in sport management from Bluefield College in 2015. Johnson recently completed his masters of education from Wayland Baptist in 2018.

Asheville City’s women’s and men’s teams will return to play in the summer of 2022. For more information about the upcoming season visit www.ashevillecitysc.com and @ashevillecitysc on social media.
