Asheville City Soccer Club made themselves at home at Greenwood Field with a 2-0 win over Southern Soccer Academy in their first home game of the season.

“It's like a breath of fresh air, it feels good,” head coach Mick Giordano said after the win. “The boys put on an absolute show. I couldn’t be any more thrilled for them.”

The Blues got momentum going in the 7th minute when Jack Stainrod scored with an assist from midfielder Ross Fitzpatrick.

“We kept saying we need to score one early and we need to find the back of the net. We are there, we are creating the chances, we gotta take the chances. It gave them confidence, and we kept building on it,” Giordano said.

Although the Kings held control of the ball for a few minutes here and there, the Blues remained dominant on the field.

The biggest momentum changer came in the 87th minute with an incredible goal by Izaiah Vignali.

“I’m speechless,” said Vignali. “I made a few mistakes early on in the game that had my confidence go down a little bit, but scoring that goal brought it right back up. I was just glad to put the game away with that goal.”

Another major playmaker is Mario Arrocha of Madrid Spain. Although unable to make it on the score sheet, he shows nonstop ball movement on the field.

“His movement and ability he has on the ball, he's so quick it drives guys away and creates pockets for guys to make a play. He’s a fun player to watch too,” Giordano said.

With the win, the Blues own a 1-0-2 record in their first ever USL2 campaign.

The Blues are on the road again this Tuesday as they face East Atlanta FC.
